Aunt Kristin and Uncle Josh got Brooklyn this GREAT Barbie guitar! It can play songs on its own or any touch to the strings and it plays. Brookie LOVES it....and her cousins think it is a pretty cool toy too! (oh, and the pretty brown and pink heart blanket too!)

Christmas Over the Years
I will be celebrating my sixth Christmas with my beautiful little Brookie Bean this year....wow....where does the time go? So...what is on our Christmas wish list this year??? Our cure for Rett Syndrome of course!! Rett Syndrome entered our world in 2007....forever changing our lives.
I want to thank everyone who has spent time in prayer over 2010 praying for treatments and a cure for Rett Syndrome......we truly are getting SO CLOSE!!! I also want to thank all of my friends and family who have financially supported our fight for a cure. I can't put into words how much that means to me that you are helping us take that next step!
If you or your company are still planning to make a charitable donation before the end of the year, I would love for your to consider Rett Syndrome and Girl Power 2 Cure. A donation can be made in Brooklyn's honor by clicking HERE.
Thank you ALL for your continued love and support of Brooklyn!

Here is a short clip of Brooklyn making her entrance at the Christmas program on Thursday. Of course I grabbed a memory card that was almost full so you do not get to see her entire performance which included her using her switch to say her speaking line. (I know WORST mom ever!!!)

Sunshine in my soul
My friend and fellow Rett mommy Maren has an amazing blog that she keeps for her daughter Leah. Yesterday her post moved me to tears. I asked if it would be ok if I shared it here on my blog too. It is about a friend of hers that was teaching a Sunday school lesson and here is what the manual said:
"Tell about a girl named Heather Erickson. She had such a severe disease that she had very little control of her body. The only way she could communicate was by her family asking her questions. If the answer was “yes,” she would look directly at the speaker, and if the answer was “no,” she would blink. Heather and her family became very good at communicating this way. Heather’s special love for Jesus, in spite of her physical handicaps, was often expressed in her communications. One day her speech therapist asked Heather what her favorite song was. Heather became excited and was anxious for her therapist to know what song it was that she loved most. After three days of searching and asking questions, the song was finally identified. It was “There Is Sunshine in My Soul Today” (Hymns, no. 227).
"The last two lines, 'And Jesus listening can hear / The songs I cannot sing,' was Heather’s favorite part. Her therapist asked, “Heather, is that it? Is that what you like about the song? Is it what you want me to know? That Jesus is listening and He can hear the songs you cannot sing?” Heather lifted her head and looked her therapist straight in the eyes with excitement and yet almost relief evident on her face. The testimony had been borne. (Adapted from Bruce and Joyce Erickson, When Life Doesn’t Seem Fair [1995], pp. 49–55.)"
(to read Maren's entire post click HERE)
WOW - reading this was a reminder that Jesus DOES hear the songs that Brooklyn cannot sing and the words she cannot speak. HE knows her feelings on the days that I, as her mommy, can't. I can't wait for the day our cure is found when I can hear her songs too!

Counting to 20
In kindergarten they are working on counting to 20. We adapt the homework since Brookie can't write in her numbers. We made the numbers 1-20 on pieces of paper and then have her eye gaze out of four choices to fill in the next blank. She was FLYING through them so it took me to the number 12 before I realized that I should be recording her doing this!!! She is a little smarty pants!
You will notice that Grammy actually misses Brooklyn picking out the correct answer twice :) Proof that even those of us that are around her all the time can miss her gaze - she is QUICK when she knows the answer!!! I will try to start filming more of her homework to show you all how she is learning and showing us too
For you Rett moms watching this....our girls ARE IN THERE! You have to be patient and help them show you.

Pink....the new green ;)
We want to say a HUGE thank you to Grace and Faith Smith who gave Brooklyn this BEAUTIFUL princess Christmas tree, complete with princess ornaments. Brooklyn had a few of her own pink ornaments to add to it and I think it is perfect!! what is not to love about princesses?
